Insbesondere die Fertigstellung von Azure scheint es den Entwicklern angetan zu haben. So schreibt zum Beispiel der .NET-Consultant und Blogger Eran Stiller über die PDC 2009:

The thing I noticed the most in this area is the ease of development and deployment to the cloud versus deployment to a local server, and the level of integration into Visual-Studio, SQL Server Management Studio and other Microsoft tools. In light of this you better start thinking – Is the cloud the right solution for you?

Auch für den Blogger Sebastian Renzi war Azure eine der Hauptattraktionen der Konferenz:

In my personal opinion the two main topics presented in the PDC were in first order Windows Azure and finally DATA, with "Dallas" project , "M" project, Entity Framework, etc.

Auf Twitter wie auch auf Blogs wurde die PDC 2009 gelobt. Ein Beispiel? Bitteschön, hier vom Blogger Nicola Malovic:

PDC 2009 is over and what a conference that was… In general, amount of positive vibes from community was so high that even surprised the usual MS haters so we had to wait couple of days to start with their choir attacks on Microsoft.

Etwas moderater äußerte sich thinktecture-Consultant und Blogger Christian Nagel:

What are my impressions of this year’s PDC? Last year's PDC was on completely new things. There's nothing completely new announced this year. No new Windows 8, nothing "after the cloud". Visual Studio 2010 is already Beta 2 and probably it's too early for Visual Studio next... Everything is growing together. And that's good - working on the foundation of last year and seeing how it gets better, more features that are heavily needed...

Doch bei allem Lob gibt es auch kritische Stimmen. So resümiert der Journalist Joe Wilcox von Betanews in einem Artikel die PDC 2009 wie folgt:

Not since PDC 2003 has Microsoft talked so much and said so little.

Was ihn hauptsächlich gestört hat, schreibt er, sei die vage Produktstrategie gewesen, die aus seiner Sicht auch noch zahlreiche Lücken aufweise. Diese habe Microsoft zu überspielen versucht. Doch nicht genug damit –Microsoft, so Wilcox, habe seine Vorrangstellung bei wegweisenden Projekten verloren:

Windows is no longer the satellite around which trendy development projects revolve.

Warum? Weil die Entwickler sich zunehmend von Windows ab- und Web development und Mobilen Geräten zuwendeten. In beiden Bereichen habe aber Windows nichts zu bieten:

Apple and Google have got the buzz. By comparative perception, Microsoft makes software for aged computing users and IT stiffshirts. Microsoft did little to change perceptions through PDC 2009.

Die Professional Developer 2009 – Top also oder Flop? Zumindest ist man geteilter Meinung.
