(Mobile) Web Design today: The good, the bad, the nice and the ugly 2

With the advent of HTML5/CSS3 and Web fonts, things seemed to look good for people with an aesthetic sense. At the same time an avalanche of technical innovations in the mobile sector destroyed all dreams of being able to fully control the look of digital information. The old question: Is it possible to design Websites that look nice and work well? Does good Web design need to look ugly? Are there links, bridges, short cuts between good user experience and nice aesthetics? A look into good and bad practice of contemporary Web design.

To these issues David Maret from Distimo will refer to and provide interesting insights, facts and figures that will help with orientation.

Developing and deploying successful inhouse enterprise apps

In this talk, we will present key factors for successful developing and deploying in-house enterprise apps. Based on our extended experience building enterprise apps with the AppConKit, we will cover three focus areas for those. We discuss the right choices for online, mixed or offline apps. Based on this starting point, we discuss impacts of the enterprise security guidelines on integrating apps tightly into their respective environment. In the last section of the talk, we discuss sensible ways to distribute apps, as well as key strategies in keeping them up to date. Throughout the whole presentation, we keep to two case studies to clarify our points.

Responsive design for Android

Android devices come in many forms an sizes. It is not enough to design Android apps for just phone and tablet forms. In fact, there is no such thing as "the Android tablet". Apps on Android need to scale to a continuum of screen sizes instead of just too sizes like on iOS. Web apps have faced the same issue for years. In web apps are now designed to be responsive, meaning that they intelligently relayout to any screen size. The best Android apps borrow the same principles and combined with the Android platforms powerful tools the apps can be built to support all devices and to fully utilise any screen size.
