What are Berlin’s companies doing for the World Cup?

The bets are placed and the beer gardens are booked. Football fever has already arrived in Berlin’s international startup scene, and employees are getting ready for plenty of company-sponsored World Cup action.

WebMagazin asked four local companies what their plans are for the World Cup.

Wooga – beer and chips supplied

Notorious for its company parties, it’s no surprise that Wooga is going all out with it’s World Cup celebrations.

The mobile gaming startup has moved weekly product meetings back 15 mins so that employees can watch 6pm kick offs in their kitchen. There’s even a screening of matches starting at 9pm and Wooga is also providing free beer and chips to all staff.

To take the fun outdoors, Wooga is hiring Pavillon (a Biergarten in Volkspark Friedrichshain) on the 26th to watch Germany vs USA and all employees are invited to bring their kids and a +1.

Their PR representative told us „If England win, I plan to run around the company at 4pm every day singing ‚Football’s Coming Home‘ until I get tired and/or get physically thrown out of the Backfabrik.“

Home24 – furniture sponsors at FC Union stadium screenings

E-commerce furniture portal Home24 has created an exclusive VIP area at the FC Union stadium in Berlin. The pitch of the Alte Försterei is being rented out for outdoor viewings of every match so that fans can bring their own sofa to the stadium.

Employees and a few lucky customers are invited to watch the games in a section of lawn kitted out with sofas from Home24 shop. Several fans recently had their sofas stolen from the FC Union stadium, but Home24 was lucky enough to avoid losing their furniture to the masked bandits.

Home24 has also announced that if Germany win the World Cup, anyone who bought their „World Cup Sofa“ will get their money back.

Idealo – gambler’s paradise

Idealo, Germany’s biggest price comparison website, tells us they currently their company has a three-pronged approach to World Cup. First of all, there’s the obligatory World Cup Sweepstake. Each participant pays €2 and picks a team. The winner, second, third and last win a small prize, and the rest of the money goes to a charity.

There’s also an advanced betting community with employees whose gambling addiction won’t be satisfied with a €2 bet. To coincide with its summer party, Idealo is also preparing an outdoor screening of the quarter finals on June 28th.

Modomoto – sponsors of FC Kreuzberg

In celebration of the World Cup, Modomoto is sponsoring the local Berlin football team FC Kreuzberg. Andreas Fischer, co-founder of the „curated shopping“ startup in Berlin yesterday paid a visit to the team to present them with their brand new football kits.

Modomoto’s employees can also join in on a company betting competition, as well as outdoor screenings in a local beer garden.
